How do you cope with tinnitus over Christmas? Quiet vs. staying busy - sponge - December 2, 2025

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on dealing with tinnitus over the Christmas period. I'm a bit torn between trying to relax at home in quieter environments, which can make my tinnitus more noticeable, and staying busy or socialising, which helps with distraction but can mean more sound exposure and fatigue.

With more downtime over Christmas, the quiet can sometimes increase my awareness of tinnitus, but too much activity or noise can also feel risky. I’m not sure what the best balance is.

How do you personally manage this time of year? Do you prefer calm and rest, or keeping background noise and activity going? I'd really appreciate hearing what's worked for others and any tips for getting through the holidays.

Thanks, and wishing everyone the best over Christmas.

I am hoping to keep busy and just try my best to forget about it.  No loud parties planned with bars with loud bands, etc.  I wear ear plugs for those anyways.  Family get togethers are usually at the right level to provide good background noise.  The only concern I have is my nephew who enjoys popping baloons.  I have been warning my sister on how risky that can be.
